  • The Portrait Experience

Most dedicated artists work towards a particular objective; at the moment Darren is perfecting his photo-realistic style. He can draw or paint anything; his portfolio includes figurative work, ballet, still-life, interiors, animals, landscapes and sport.

“…Painting is my lifeblood and my work is wrought from an unswerving desire to understand paint, art and the subjects I observe. My work owes much to the great exponents of still-life and portraiture, classical tradition underpins my painting. Every new piece is a statement of intent: to improve and to better understand the subject. My studies and observations of the old masters inspire and inform my art, whilst also relying heavily on contemporary influences. I aim to be of my own time whilst also that of the past.”

Darren Baker's stunning new portrait of the Queen was unveiled by HRH The Princess Royal at a commemorative service in Westminster Abbey. Darren said the commission to paint the Queen by the Royal British Legion has been the greatest honour of his career and an experience he will always treasure.

Sir John Kiszely KCB MC, National President of The Royal British Legion said; "It is clear Darren Baker has produced one of the most remarkably realistic portraits of our Monarch this century"
