  • The Portrait Experience

Sasha Harding was born in Bath but raised on the south coast in Dorset. One of seven children she was encouraged to paint from an early age and had her first exhibition at the age of fourteen with an older sister in the sitting room at home. She won an Art Scholarship to Marlborough College, which was followed by a Diploma and a Fine Art Degree. She now lives on the south coast of Cornwall with man, dog and chickens. Painting for Sasha is all about capturing a moment in time. Perhaps unusually for a painter, from the initial spark of an idea she will write down words and come to a title before the accompanying forms take shape, setting a strong narrative from which to work. Next she will turn to her sketchbook and very carefully plan the layout and conjure up the characters, meaning that when the time comes to put paint to canvas the picture is already fully-fledged. The actual painting is the very final stage of the process, the fun part.
