  • The Portrait Experience

Karen Pittaway currently lives in Kenilworth in Warwickshire. This area features in much of her recent work, the style of which has been likened to Lowry. Karen freely admits to using Lowry as her inspiration, she describes herself as ‘Lowrys’ alter ego, Lowry in rose-tinted spectacles’.

Karen grew up in Cambridge and went on to read Art and English at London University, having first spent a year in Paris, working and painting.

On leaving University, where she was awarded top honours for her final exhibition, she set up a gallery in Warwick. This she ran for fifteen years while her young family were growing up. She made the decision to become a full-time artist five years ago. Karen’s preferred medium is oil, she also loves pastel, but will work in whatever medium the subject suggests.
