James Tytler was born in Aberdeen in 1948. After graduating from Greys School of Art in Aberdeen he embarked on a career teaching Art and Design. In 1978 James left teaching to pursue his ambition to become a professional artist. Influenced by many of the Scottish Colourists he became an accomplished painter in both pastel and oil, his use of colour and light giving him a distinctive and recognisable style. In recent years James has traveled extensively throughout Europe and his current collection of work draws heavily on his appreciation of the vibrant colours and sunlight found in Provence, Tuscany and the Mediterranean coast.

Painting on Panel with either oil or acrylic James has become a very collectable artist.
