David was born in 1957 and raised in the north east of England. Soon after winning the school art prize he enlisted in the Royal Marines at the age of 16, where he served for over 10 years. He continued to draw and paint during this time before returning to civilian life to pursue a career as a commercial illustrator, studying graphic design and technical illustration. He then worked as an illustrator/designer for 4 years before founding Triad Design Partnership. He also has an MA in Computer Graphics. Despite the rewards of owning a business, the demands of managing a successful design agency for 24 years may have frustrated his artistic endeavours. However, in recent years his art, in particular portrait painting, has become a major commitment. A pivotal point was attending a summer workshop in New York with Daniel E. Greene, the American master portrait painter. David remains a regular member of drawing/painting groups in Northampton and London. He has drawn or painted most subjects over the years from maps to murals; from 4 star generals to nudes. Although his work has only been in the public domain in recent years he was a finalist in the Artist & Illustrator magazine Self Portrait Awards in 2007, won First Prize at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters live art event and International Artist magazine published a major 8 page feature on his work in 2010.
